Signed 8x10 official NASA photograph — T. Kenneth “Ken” Mattingly II, Apollo 16 Command Module Pilot. Hand-signed and personally inscribed: “Best Wishes to Richland Middle School — Ken Mattingly.”
The photo: NASA official “Apollo 16 Nears Touchdown” — the iconic splashdown image. Not a portrait reprint — this is the real mission photograph.
Who he was:
Apollo 16 CMP, April 1972. Famously pulled from Apollo 13 three days before launch due to measles exposure — and then worked around the clock from Mission Control to help save that crew. Flew STS-4 and STS-51-C. Retired as Rear Admiral, USN. Ken Mattingly passed away November 2023 — his signed material is now permanently fixed in supply.
