The 50th Ohio Volunteer Infantry was a regiment organized in August 1862. It fought in a number of important battles and campaigns including the Battle of Perryville, the Atlanta Campaign, the Battles of Franklin and Nashville, TN, before being mustered out on June 26, 1865. The regiment lost 6 officers and 70 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded and an additional 134 enlisted men to disease. The note is a standard stock design that was used across a number of Union units from different states that features a scene of a military camp flanked by an allegorical woman standing by a federal shield at left and an eagle and shield vignette at upper right. An orange security panel flanked by 25s completes the design. PMG notes a bit of rust which is pretty well camouflaged by the design elements on the face. This is the first 25¢ note we have offered from this unit.
