Description

These are handmade This is Full size  Still has the original receipt dating it to 1990 so a well payed in instrument but still in good condition  Made by Stentor who are the most recommended brand by Music Teachers.

At the time these were  4th in the hierarchy of Stentor violins  below it was The Stentor Standard, then Student 1 and then Student 2.  The receipt shows it cost £130 in 1990. A new Zeller  nowadays  is around £400

Case is solid shows some signs of wear but fully usable Mainly one of the internal pockets could use gluing. Bow could be used but I would recomend a new one. Just a pounds on ebay.

Bargain instrumment already played in for you.

Please note the following which applies to all instruments sold

1  Soundposts will occasionally dislodge during shipping. Usually a luthier will not charge you for putting them back up, however violins  are sold on the basis that the soundpost might need to be put back up

2  Finger boards are designed to be easily removed (and replaced) It is unusual but very occasionally a fingerboard gets loose during shipping. Again a luthier can help in simply regluing it. However all instruments are sold with the possibility the fingerboard may need to be reglued. Its very unusual though

3  Bow and case (where offered) are a free gift to the winner but do not form part of the auction. For some very distant countries In order to honour our published prices we will supply a lighter case than the one shown in the images.

4 I am not a luthier so please study the pictures  and make sure it is what  you need.  There may be additional issues with the instrument
I am unaware of. All violins are sold as needing refurbishment, repair and a complete set up whether they need it or not

One thing worth remembering is historically vintage violins have been one of the best best  investments out there as they have
consistently increased in value. Whereas a modern instrument  basically looses value through time.

Guidance For Inexperienced Buyers

Experienced people can skip this bit

If you are inexperienced please consult either a luthier or experienced person before bidding . Please use a PC to view images. You may not be able to view the detail or repair needed on a phone.

Any vintage violin sells for a minimum of £400 in a violin shop. Expecting to buy a set up playable 100 year old violin for £60 or a fully restored vintage bow for £5. is unrealistic

The convention with labels in violins is if described as "labelled " eg "Antonius Stradivarius" the seller is basically just describing what is written on the label - no more. If he says a violin is "by" + name he is stating that the instrument was made by that person.

The same convention applies with bows ?Branded?  just means that is the name branded on the bow. ?By? means that is the name of the maker. For example a lot of bows are branded ?Tourte? This just implies the design of the bow.
