Important Packaging Information:

To ensure your authentic Kuba textile arrives in pristine condition, it will be professionally packed using the rolling method (pattern facing outwards).
The rolled textile will be secured with protective stretch wrap to maintain structural integrity and provide a barrier against humidity and dust during transit. This method is the safest way to transport vintage raffia fibers, as it prevents permanent creasing or cracking that can occur with traditional folding.
Upon delivery, carefully remove the wrap, unroll the panel, and allow it to rest flat. Any light waves from transit will naturally settle over a short period.

Product Details:
Item Overview:
This is an authentic, hand-embroidered Shoowa Kuba cloth from the Kasai region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Often referred to as "Kasai Velvet," these textiles are world-renowned for their complex geometric patterns and unique plush texture.
Craftsmanship:
Each panel is a labor of love, taking several months to complete. The process is a collaborative tribal effort: men harvest and weave the base raffia cloth, while women perform the intricate embroidery. The "velvet" effect is achieved by cutting the embroidery threads very short, creating a soft, tufted surface.
Pattern & Symbolism:
The design features a classic Diamond Motif, a hallmark of Kuba artistry. These patterns are typically improvised by the artist, making every single panel a one-of-a-kind piece of African heritage.

Condition Note:
This item is "New Vintage" — it has been carefully stored and has never been used or exposed to sunlight. It retains the original strength of the raffia fibers and the depth of the natural earth-tone dyes.
