**A VERY RARE ISSUE FOR ANTONINUS PIUS**
A very interesting and unassuming coin that is currently VERY rare, with OCRE listing just two, however one of the specimens they show is not as AEAs but a dupondius, thus OCRE has just ONE; auction archives/ACSearch lists less than a dozen examples sold at auction within the past two decades as well, the most recent being an example sold by Rome, E-Sale 82, Lot 1360, 4/15/2021; the reverse inscription indicates that Antoninus Pius held Tribunician Powers for the 19th time and was Consul for the 4th time, with the obverse giving him the titles of 'Pater Patriae' or 'Father of the Country' and also that he was hailed as Imperator for the 2nd time; unusually for these issues, the reverse features only lines of text without the commonly found deities such as Annona, Jupiter or Providentia, who feature on other AE issues with this same reverse legend; this coin has a lovely reddish bronze patina with areas of a greenish patina formed in the fields that could be cleaned if one so wished, but looks absolutely fine as is
All coins are authentic and from my own personal collection. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
Over the coming weeks I will be adding more fixed price listings of Late Roman Bronze Coins so please check back with me.
If
there is any specific type you are looking for let me know. I have an
extensive Late Antique collection with AE and some AR issues dating from
the mid 3rd Century AD to the 8th Century AD
I
strive to make accurate impressions of the coins I list, thus my
listings tend to have a multitude of photos, taken under different light
sources and from different angles, as there is nothing worse (in my
opinion) than purchasing a coin and having it arrive looking nothing
like the photo!
Thank You
