Great Western Railway saddle tank scratch aid.
It is designed to be a push fit on the N gauge Dapol 57xx chassis. To achieve that fit it is necessary to:
- Remotor the Dapol chassis with a 7mm diameter coreless motor, also available in our other listings, as in the last photo. The Dapol worm can be removed from their existing motor and is a direct fit on the shaft of the replacement. Affixing the motor can be by epoxy or, ideally, by creating a cradle in plasticard or somesuch.
- The resin body will need to be carved back to accommodate the Dapol chassis. A 7mm diamter grinding drum on a minidrill is the quickest and easiest solution. Some of the central splasher will need to go as will a portion of the cab and bunker floors.
- The modeller will need to create fresh fixing points for the new body to match the chassis. Plasticard embedded in epoxy is the most expedient solution.
- There is sufficient space within the body to accommodate enough lead to create an all up weight that exceeds the Dapol original.
- Handrails, smokebox darts and all essential detail not shown in the photograph of the model will need to be supplied by the modeller.
