This little owl is The Moonbeam Keeper, a new member of my Creatures of the Hidden Hours folklore series. I painted him in layered watercolor and metallics so he would feel both grounded and otherworldly — the way these imagined guardians live in my mind. His copper eyes were the first thing to appear, bright and steady, and everything else grew around that glow.
In the old tale, he gathers the dancing moonbeams each night, tucking them beneath his feathers until they shine through him in soft, translucent layers. That’s why he always looks a bit ethereal, as if he’s made of shimmer and shadow at the same time. He’s a quiet protector, watching over anyone who needs a little light in the dark.
This ACEO is a one‑of‑a‑kind original, hand‑drawn and hand‑painted in my impressionist watercolor style with metallic accents that shift beautifully in the light. He’s meant to feel like a tiny piece of folklore you can hold.
