Historical context: Friedrich Missler (1858-1922) was a merchant from Bremen.
Missler learned the trade at the emigration expert service Bodeker in Bremen.
In 1880, he became a citizen of Bremen, and on January 12th, 1881, he opened F. Missler – an emigration agency – in Bremen, which existed until July 31, 1935.
This company quickly developed into one of the most important agencies in Europe.
From 1885 to 1935, it arranged 1.6 million emigrants for the North German Lloyd shipping company.
The company headquarters were primarily located at Bahnhofstrasse 30.
Further branches existed in many capital cities in Central, Southern, and Eastern Europe.
F. Missler and Co. was one of the most important emigration agencies in Austria-Hungary:in 1913, the company boasted 60,000 to 80,000 clients, followed by the Hamburg travel agency Falck and Co. with 40,000 clients.
In 1894/95, he acquired the Achterberg and Siemsgluss farms in Obereinzingen near Dorfmark and built a convalescent home there for sick adults and later for children from Bremen.
It operated from 1896 until the end of the Second World War.
Combating tuberculosis and strengthening the children's immune systems were the goals of the stays for 46 Bremen schoolchildren at a time.
Achterberg no longer exists today.
Missler bequeathed his considerable fortune to the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen in the form of the Friedrich Missler Foundation (dissolved in 1942) (Wiki).
