A Genuine 18th-Century German Silver Treasure

Offered here is an exceptionally rare and authentic silver wager cup (Brautbecher or Jungfraubecher), dating to the late 18th century. Unlike the common 19th-century "fantasy" reproductions often found on the market, this piece bears the official historical hallmarks of Stuttgart, Germany.

Design & Craftsmanship:
The cup features a beautifully modeled maiden in period attire, holding a swivel cup above her head. The "skirt" of the figure forms the primary drinking vessel, which is intricately chased with a continuous pattern of Rococo scrolls and foliate motifs. The swivel mechanism remains in working order, allowing the two cups to be used simultaneously according to the traditional wedding challenge.

Hallmarks & Authenticity:

City Mark: The Running Horse of Stuttgart. This specific version (running rather than rearing and without a date letter) was utilized during the mid-to-late 1700s.

Purity Mark: Stamped "13", representing the 13 Loth standard (81.2% silver), which was the legal requirement for silver in the German states during this era.

Condition:
Presented in excellent antique condition consistent with its 250-year age. The chasing remains crisp, and the silver retains a beautiful, soft patina. No significant dents, splits, or visible repairs. (Please see high-resolution photos for detail).

A superb acquisition for a serious collector of Continental Silver or German Judaica/Wedding traditions.
