This listing is for a Fox Renard 222 high quality maple wood bassoon in good used condition with new Protec case. Serial number is 13521 and the keys are nickel plated. I am the second owner. I have upgraded to an expensive bassoon and no longer need this one. It has served me very well.
A Fox *CVX* 1 bocal and Schreiber 2 bocal in good condition are included. You may want to pair different bocals with the bassoon to optimize it for your own playing.
This bassoon sat in the case unplayed for 4 decades before I bought it. The original student got a swab stuck in the wing joint and lost interest at that point. Please zoom in on the photo of the bore to see the minor scratches in one small area where the swab was extracted. This has not affected the sound or tuning. In fact, I have played numerous paying gigs on this instrument with no problems at all and it sounds great.
The wood bore and keys have been oiled regularly since I have owned it for the last six years. I oiled them again after the video was made. The wood is in very good condition with normal signs of use, such as minor nicks and scratches. The plating shows some normal oxidation here and there and some light wear on a few keys (please zoom in on photos). This 222 has lovely character to the wood grain.
There is a small stable repaired hairline crack in the bass joint tenon receiver on the boot joint. It does not go all the way through the socket/tenon receiver and has not moved in the time I have owned the instrument. It has no effect on the playability and should be fine as long as the bassoon is respected and handled with normal care. The instrument was checked by a professional woodwind repair technician prior to listing and no others items of note were found. It is in good condition for its age with a lot of life in it for many years to come.
The model 222 features a plateau key for left hand ring finger. It has been convenient for my arthritis and I will miss having this feature. I have not used a bassoon right hand rest on this instrument. If the new owner chooses to do so, they will need to add a Fox rest and locking screw.
The video exhibits a three octave B-flat scale. I am primarily a clarinetist and it has been six months since playing bassoon prior to making the video, so please excuse the imperfection.
