Antique J. Newman’s watercolour paint box, circa 1830, manufactured at 24 Soho Square, London. —

A beautifully crafted early 19th century artist’s case in polished wood with brass escutcheon and carry handle. The interior lid features the original embossed panel depicting J. Newman’s manufactory building, finished with gilt lettering reading “J. Newman’s Manufactory – 24 Soho Square.” —

Inside, the box retains its fitted compartments including labelled colour slots, ceramic mixing palette with three wells, metal lidded section, twin metal compartments, and brush storage tray. Several original glass pigment bottles remain present along with cake pigments and brushes. —

A highly collectable early Victorian artist’s paint box and an excellent example of Newman’s craftsmanship from the first half of the 19th century.

Good antique condition for age. General age-related surface wear, light marks and minor edge wear consistent with use and age. Interior fittings remain present and well preserved with signs of historic use to the palette and compartments.

The lower drawer is currently locked and cannot be opened as the original key is missing.
