Westerly Era | Rosewood Body | Ebony Fingerboard
For your consideration is a 1979 Guild D-50NT. For Guild aficionados, the "Westerly Era" (Rhode Island factory) represents the pinnacle of build quality. These guitars are famous for being slightly heavier than their Martin counterparts, built with robust bracing and thicker woods that result in incredible projection and sustain.
The Sound: The D-50 was Guild's answer to the Rosewood Dreadnought market. It features a Solid Sitka Spruce Top and Rosewood Back & Sides. Unlike the warmer Mahogany D-40, the D-50 delivers a powerful, piano-like clarity with a thumping low end. The Ebony Fingerboard adds a quick attack to the notes. After 45 years of aging, this wood has opened up to produce a massive, mature volume that modern guitars simply cannot replicate.
๐ก YUKI'S TIP: If you love the D-28 sound but want more "muscle" and projection, the Westerly D-50 is the answer. It's often called the "Bluegrass Cannon" for a reason. The Ebony fretboard is a key feature hereโit gives the notes a faster attack than Rosewood boards.
