🧭 Historical context
This banknote was issued during the final years of President Jaafar Numeiri’s rule, a period marked by political centralization and growing economic pressure in Sudan.
As a low-denomination everyday note, the 50 Piastres circulated widely among the population, making it a genuine witness to daily life in Sudan during the early 1980s — shortly before major political change and the eventual division of the country.
Despite similar names, this note belongs only to the Republic of Sudan and has no relation to South Sudan or French Sudan (modern Mali).
