A superb original Edwardian Tudric pewter bowl by Liberty & Co, dating to circa 1905–1915, from Liberty’s celebrated Arts & Crafts metalware programme.

This is a genuine early Tudric example, not a later inter-war or revival piece, displaying all the hallmarks collectors look for: deep hand-hammered planishing, a beautifully proportioned shallow form, and an applied decorative scroll border to the rim — a classic Liberty detail of the period.

Marked to the base TUDRIC / ENGLISH PEWTER / LIBERTY & CO with pattern number 01354 and size 6.

Tudric pewter was Liberty’s proprietary, high-quality lead-free alloy, introduced in 1901 to embody the Arts & Crafts ideals of honest materials, visible craftsmanship, and functional beauty. Pieces from this early Edwardian phase represent the golden age of Liberty pewter and are increasingly sought after.

The bowl has a wonderful soft patina and catches the light beautifully, whether used as a fruit bowl, centrepiece, or decorative interior accent.

Founded in 1875, Liberty & Co was one of the most influential tastemakers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. At a time when industrial mass-production dominated, Liberty championed the Arts & Crafts movement, promoting hand craftsmanship, honest materials, and progressive design.

Liberty’s Tudric pewter range, launched in 1901, became one of the most successful expressions of these ideals. It brought high-quality, artist-led metalwork into ordinary homes, bridging the gap between fine craft and everyday use. Many Tudric designs are now recognised as icons of British design history, collected internationally and held in museum collections.

Today, Liberty remains a globally recognised luxury design house, synonymous with originality, craftsmanship, and British creative heritage. Early Tudric pieces like this bowl represent the moment when Liberty helped define modern British design, making them as relevant to contemporary interiors now as they were over a century ago.
