H.M.S. “Undaunted” (1807) Lying in Barn Pool, Mount Edgcumbe — 19th-Century British Maritime Engraving

Beautiful antique steel engraving depicting the Royal Navy frigate H.M.S. Undaunted anchored in Barn Pool, Mount Edgcumbe, Plymouth Sound. Figures on the shoreline haul in fishing nets while the majestic Undaunted rides at anchor in the background, with the wooded slopes of Mount Edgcumbe and the Devonport dockyards beyond.

This engraving is from a mid-19th-century maritime series after the works of William John Huggins or Thomas Allom, engraved by Edward Duncan and published in London by Virtue & Co. circa 1835–1850.

The piece is mounted under glass in a finely crafted bird’s-eye maple veneer frame with gilt slip, likely dating from the 1970s–1980s. The print itself appears clean and well-preserved with excellent impression detail and minimal toning.

A wonderful example of early Victorian marine art — ideal for nautical, historical, or British naval collections.

Please note: this is an original 19th-century engraving, not a modern print or reissue. The ship HMS Undaunted depicted here was launched in 1807 and famously carried Napoleon to exile on Elba in 1814.
