Information from facial recognition matching Photo: notes:
Identifications if not marked are by a facial recognition software commonly used by genealogists to identify unknown people. Using AI to analyze photos mapping facial features to create a numerical signature for each face. It then compares these signatures to find potential matches against other databases, like the Library of Congress, and calculates a "Resemblance Number" to indicate the likelihood that two faces are the same person
We only include matches of 85% or higher.
All of our Tintypes are original, period photographs. We do NOT sell reproductions of any kind and we do not alter, color, or change the photographs in any way.

A tintype, also known as a melanotype or ferrotype, is a photograph made by creating a direct positive on a thin sheet of metal. invented in the 1850s. It is a unique positive image that became popular during the Civil War due to its affordability and portability.
Process: A photographic emulsion is applied to a thin sheet of iron coated with a dark lacquer, and the plate is then exposed and developed.
Appearance: The process results in a negative image, but when viewed against the black background of the plate, it appears as a positive image.
Characteristics:
Tintypes are unique, one-of-a-kind physical objects rather than a negative that can be reproduced.
They are often a mirror image of the original scene because they are not flipped in the camera.
The images can be hand-colored and are often sold with protective cases or frames.
