This is a highly collectible, complete 21-piece miniature porcelain tea set sold by the historic American toy retailer, FAO Schwarz. This set is clearly marked with the retailer's branding and is a wonderful piece of mid-century toy and ceramic history.
Brand/Markings: Stamped "Japan," "Est. 1862," "TOYS," and "FAO Schwarz" on the bottom of several pieces.
Design: White porcelain featuring a vibrant blue floral pattern (blue cornflowers).
1 Oval plate – 6.5” x 4.25”.
1 Covered Dish with lid – 5.5” wide x 3.5” deep x 3” tall.
1 Teapot with lid – 5.5” wide x 4.25” tall x 2.75” deep.
1 Creamer and 1 Sugar Bowl (w/ lid) – 2" tall x 2.5” wide.
4 Cups – 2.25” diameter x 1.25” tall.
5 Large Plates – 5.5” diameter.
4 Smaller Plates – 3.75” diameter.
1 Smallest Plate – 3.25” diameter.
1 Salt Shaker & 1 Pepper Shaker – 2" tall.
Overall: Excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks aside from noted issues.
Flaws to Note: Standard minor wear for a vintage toy set:
Minor chipping found along the inner rim of the lidded sugar dish.
One shaker has a slight discoloration/speck on the exterior, consistent with age.
Salt shaker's original cork is pushed inside; pepper shaker cork is missing.
