Antique “BOTTLED BY JEYES” Amber Glass Bottle – Northampton, Late Victorian Disinfectant Bottle
Description:
Original antique amber glass bottle embossed with “BOTTLED BY JEYES.”
Produced by the Jeyes Fluid Company of Northampton, founded in 1877, this bottle once contained one of their famous disinfectant or cleaning fluids.
The ribbed design helped users grip the bottle securely and also served as a tactile warning that it contained poisonous or chemical substances — a common safety feature of late 19th and early 20th century bottles.
Features:
• Embossed text: BOTTLED BY JEYES
• Colour: Amber brown
• Height: approx. 10 cm
• Shape: Rectangular with ribbed sides and narrow neck
• Condition: Excellent for age – no cracks or chips, light wear and internal residue typical of antique glass
Historical note:
Jeyes Fluid became one of the most recognizable British disinfectant brands, patented in 1877 and still known today. Bottles like this are sought after by collectors of Victorian chemist and household product memorabilia.
