#24 1940’s Vintage Stanley WARDS MASTER No 5 Type 16 Wood Plane Tool CLEAN

Super clean vintage wood plane, ready to work or display

Lightly used vintage wood plane,..a very clean plane for this era…

Fast shipping, same day as payment is rec’d

The plane was obtained from a wood plane collector’s estate sale, where it was well cared for.

The plane has been completely dismantled, and all parts lightly cleaned.

This is a vintage smooth bottom wood plane, model No 5 made by Stanley Tool Co. for Montgomery Ward’s catalog stores, under the brand name Wards Master. I believe this plane is a Stanley late type 16, made from 1933 to 1941 and maybe into the late 1940’s. It is very hard to date the Wards Master planes.

The plane is embossed behind the front knob MADE IN USA and embossed on the rear sole is NO 5, and stamped  on the blade is STANLEY inside the notched rectangle, and MADE IN USA logo.

For dating: Made in USA behind the front knob, Stanley MADE IN USA inside notched rectangle logo, toe & heel, has raised broad flat rib cast into it, key hole lever cap, features of later Stanley type 16, No 5. The front knob and tote has brass waste nuts, the lateral lever has no markings and has the twisted handle with disk.

The lever cap is the key hole style, appears Nichol plated and is embossed WARDS MASTER, the blade depth adjuster knob is brass and 1 1/4” in dim.

The plane has a 2 1/2" wide base, and is approx. 5 1/4" high, the blade is 2" wide and 7” long.

The plane is in good condition for the era shows lightly used,…… the wood is solid, black paint was flaking off, was stripped and was recently repainted black,….. the black japanning is about 95 % plus intact – has a few spots missing and chips. The blade is sharp----I touched it up a little……As with the vintage of the plane, there are a few dings, and a few surface scratches, a few spots of the japanning has chipped off, and some discoloration, all as noted from the photos.

The plane is SOLD AS IS with NO RESERVE. e-mail questions before bidding.
