TRUE DETECTIVE – February 1949 – Wiretaps, Gumshoes & Grift – Vintage Pulp Crime Magazine
Step into the smoky underworld of post-war America with this vintage February 1949 issue of True Detective—a sensational, streetwise magazine that oozes noir charm and tabloid scandal. This issue features the explosive exposé:
🔍 “New York’s Sensational Nancy Chorem Wire-Tapping Case” — Is tapping private wires justified?
Wrapped in a pulp-perfect painted cover of a red-lipped dame under the gaze of the Empire State Building, this issue delivers a full deck of true crime tales, blackmail busts, private eyes, and moral dilemmas—all soaked in cigarette smoke and corruption.
Inside you’ll find:
“Planning to Disappear?” – Dan Eisenberg shows how vanishing acts aren’t just for magicians.
“The Ups and Downs of Gus Fusaro” – From Calabrian goat herder to the American dream.
“Death Trip” by Edward S. Sullivan – A raw, suspenseful tale pulled from real case files.
Classic illustrations and photos of suspects, molls, and detectives on the prowl.
🕵️♂️ Back cover features a fantastic full-color ad for Eveready Flashlight Batteries — “Nine Lives” and bounce-back power!
Condition:
Good vintage condition. Spine wear and a small chip at top of the cover. Binding intact, pages complete with light tanning as expected for age. All pages are legible and present. A couple of internal corners show minor folds, but nothing that spoils the readability or aesthetic. A terrific display piece for any pulp, crime, or mid-century pop culture collector.
