Captain Glover Trenholm Ferguson, USN (retired), died August 1 in Gainesville, Florida at 90 years of age.
In November 2001 Glover moved to Gainesville from Coronado, California, where he and his wife, Mary Louise, had lived for many years.
Born in Annapolis, Maryland, he attended the Severn School and was a graduate of Annapolis High. Awaiting an appointment to the Naval Academy, he enlisted in the Navy at age 17. He ultimately received his appointment in time to graduate with the class of 1933. In his first class year he was all-American lacross and the captain of the team.
Glover's career as an officer of the line took him through the horror that was December 7, 1941 to what he considered his finest moment in 1960 when he took command of USS BOSTON CAG1. His last tour of duty was Chief of Staff, COM14, in Hawaii. Retiring from the Navy in 1964, Glover worked in the private sector before relocating to Coronado some 10 years later.
In the service of his country he was awarded the Silver Star in addition to other assorted decorations and commendations.
