Samus Aran is infected by the X parasite, a dangerous creature that can mimic other life forms. She is saved by a vaccine derived from Metroid DNA. Sent to investigate a distress signal at the Biologic Space Laboratories (BSL) station, she encounters the X parasite and its dangerous mutations, including a powerful clone of herself known as the SA-X.
