When it comes to fire-breathing, monster-smashing, city-stomping, scaly green giant reptiles, accept no substitute for the one and only original Godzilla. The adventures of Japan’s biggest and most charismatic movie star are tailor-made for comic books, where ‘Zilla has made periodic appearances since the 1960s. Most recently, the Lizard King was the subject of a big, fun, action-packed series from Dark Horse, written by Ryder T. Windham and drawn by Brandon McKinney, with inks from Andrews Pepoy. This creative team knows better than to mess with a successful formula: radioactive monster appears near a crowded city. The Army and police are helpless. The populace runs screaming from burning buildings. Just as all seems lost, Godzilla appears on the scene to tackle the evil old giant (Moth/Crab/Vulture, etc.) and stomp the rest of the city while he’s at it. It doesn’t get any better than this!
