Highlights from the game:
Mariano Rivera blew his first save of the season, A-Rod rescued the Yankees from what would have been a devastating loss, belting a go-ahead home run off Matt Guerrier in the 12th inning.
Xavier Nady gave the Bombers some insurance with a two-run shot off Guerrier, allowing Edwar Ramirez some breathing room as he closed out the game for his first save. Jose Veras pitched two scoreless innings to pick up the win. Delmon Young‘s three-run homer off Rivera in the eighth tied the game, ending Rivera’s streak of 28 consecutive saves converted to open the season. Johnny Damon, who was left out of the lineup on Monday night, improved his AL-best average to .325 after a 3-for-6 night, his sixth straight multi-hit game. His leadoff homer in the first gave the Yankees a quick lead against Nick Blackburn, but the Twins countered with two in the second against Mussina.
