This coin celebrates the Bohdana self-propelled artillery unit (SPAU) – an iconic symbol of Ukraine’s military might and engineering prowess. This 155-mm wheeled howitzer, developed with advanced technological solutions, has become a key component of the artillery capabilities of Ukraine’s Armed Forces. Thanks to its high-precision targeting, it demonstrates the strategic mission of Ukraine`s defense industry.
Obverse: against a smooth background is an outline of Smiinyi (Snake) Island, which was successfully liberated with artillery support from the Bohdana SPAU. Near the island are stylized snakes that are leaving the territory, symbolizing the enemy’s retreat. Above is Ukraine’s small coat of arms; to the left, on lightning-like zigzags that symbolize the power of artillery strikes, are the following legends: УКРАЇНА (Ukraine) (vertical), the coin’s issue year – 2025, the coin’s face value 5, and the graphic symbol of the hryvnia. Beneath, in the center, is the mint mark of the NBU’s Banknote Printing and Minting Works.
Reverse: there is a Bohdana self-propelled artillery system in the process of combat deployment across a steppe landscape. This emphasizes its mobility and adaptability to various combat conditions. The coin vividly portrays the power of Ukrainian artillery through the dynamic depiction of a shot being fired. In the background is a silhouette of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi’s portrait. The portrait symbolizes the unyielding spirit of the Ukrainian military and represents a historical axis connecting the past and the present in the ongoing fight for independence. At the bottom of the coin is the legend: САУ “БОГДАНА” (Bohdana SPAU).
