A STERLING SILVER VICTORIAN OFFICER'S CAP BADGE OF THE 1ST ABERDEENSHIRE RIFLE VOLUNTEER ADMINISTATIVE BATTALION.

A large badge measuring 64mm x 46mm with two long shanked copper lugs to the back and weighing 24.3g (Bloomer #219).

The badge is clearly marked "SILVER" as detailed.

In excellent used condition as images having only very light wear to the highlights and displaying a good overall toned patina.

This unit was formed in May 1860 with HQ at Inverurie. This unit became the 4th Volunteer Battalion, The Gordon Highlanders in 1884 and in 1894 they were re-named 4th Donside Highland Volunteer Battalion, The Gordon Highlanders. The lugs are correct North/South fitting not East/West.

A very scarce cap badge.
