This ancient coin is from the Roman Empire during the years AD 253-260. It is a BI Double Denarius bronze coin issued for the ruler Valerian I. Valerian I was the first Roman Emperor taken captive in battle, captured by the Persian Emperor Shapur I after the battle Edessa. Valerian remained in captivity until his death, possibly from being forced to swallow molten gold.
