1939 BASEBALL Centennial 3c purple Sc 855 plate block
Issued on June 12, 1939, the 3¢ purple Baseball Centennial stamp (Sc 855) commemorates the 100th anniversary of the sports origins. It features a design showing a batter, catcher, and umpire, with a grandstand in the background. The stamp was released in Cooperstown, New York, coinciding with the opening of the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
