REPLACEMENT SHAFT FOR THE TOP IDLER DRUM
ASSEMBLY ON A VINTAGE DELTA 6 X 48 BELT SANDER.
OUR NEW AND IMPROVED IDLER SHAFT USES
½=20 NYLON INSERT LOCKNUTS IN LIEU OF THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT METRIC NUTS DELTA
USED.
OUR SHAFT IS PERCISION MACHINDED FROM TURNED,
GROUND, AND POLISHED 4140 ALLOY STEEL.
The shaft comes complete with two lock
nuts, two throw-away free spinning set up nuts, and four .035” thick shim
washers.
When
bearings fail and the shaft or drums spin incorrectly on the machine, the wear
points are the axle and the ends of the small bosses on the drums. Either one or two of the supplied shim
washers will compensate for the wear on the drum bosses.
Included
with the shaft, nuts, and shim washers is a set of step by step instructions on
how we have found it best to assemble the shaft and idler components. Our suggested method is to assemble the bearings,
spacers, and drums on the axel away from the idler casting and determine the
shim requirements to prevent the nuts from bottoming out on the stepped shaft
prior to tightening the assembly axially.
Suggested
installation instructions are included.
