ALL NEW CNC MACHINED STEEL HUB FOR VINTAGE DELTA 7” DUAL WHEEL GRINDERS

Vintage Delta grinders, like the Triple Duty and the model 23-105 machines have a hub that the grinding wheel rests against on the inside of the end casting.  This hub goes by Delta part number BG-8, but may have a couple of different drive configurations depending on the vintage of the machine.  A similar hub may have been used on other Delta grinders, but our experience has been primarily with the Triple Duty bench and pedestal machines.

The flanged hub slips on the shaft and presses against the motor armature’s end bearing.  When restoring a 40’s - 50’s era twin wheel grinder, these hubs are often missing, cracked, or well-worn where the grease seal rides on the hub’s smaller diameter surface.

There were two styles of this hub.  They were both used on single phase and three phase machines depending on the year of manufacture.

The earlier hubs (I believe prior to 1946) were cast with a slot to fit over an 1/8” spring pin that is driven crossways into the shaft near the seal.   The pin prevented rotation of the hub during operation.

The later hubs (somewhere around 1946 and on) eliminated the spring pin and were compressed against the bearing by a second fine threaded shaft nut that fit into a recess in the hub in order to clear the grinding wheel.  The compression of the hub to the bearing by this nut prevented the hub from rotating.

Our new hubs are not cast, but machined from steel to fit both applications.  Our hubs have a CNC milled slot for the spring pin type grinders and also have a recess in the flange face to accommodate the fine thread nut that the later versions used.  Our hub works perfectly with either type of vintage Delta grinder.

Our hubs are precision made in a computer controlled machining center from high quality C1018 steel.  They are cut for clearance at the socket head cap screws that secure the end casting and chamfered to clear the side walls of the outer casting.

The price listed is for ONE (1) hub.  Vintage Delta grinders require two of these.  There is no difference so the hub can be used on either the left side or the right side of the machine.  If you have a hub that appears to work okay, you need not buy two.  The grinder will run fine with different hubs on opposing sides.

Shipping is $7.00 for a grinder hub to anywhere in the lower 48 states.
