Ninjutsu is not a museum piece. This book is the training journal of a working ninjutsu practitioner who set out to learn the old arts by doing them, and it takes you inside twelve areas of practice, from breathing and mountain survival to shuriken throwing and the use of makibishi caltrops.
You follow the author through his first encounter with ninjutsu, a strength contest with a former Russian soldier, nights spent training alone in the mountains, an encounter with a bear, and a full month of fasting. Along the way he explains the hand seals and the shout of kiai, the distinction between in-nin and yo-nin, what the three great ninjutsu manuals actually say about concealment, and how he tested disguise and infiltration for himself. Chapters on footwork draw on the "Shoninki" and its ten rules of stepping, alongside notes on footwear and covering one's tracks.
A special section covers the Edo-period walking method for traveling 160 kilometers in a day, with the complete "Banmin Senri Zenpo Den" text reproduced in full-page images. The book carries a recommendation from Professor Yuji Yamada of Mie University, a leading scholar of ninja studies.
The text is in Japanese, across 264 pages. Published by BAB JAPAN. Brand new, 2025 publication.
