Description

About This Items

  1. Hannya's Mask (Hannya no Men. Hannya-men, also Hannya) is a type of Noh mask. It is a grudge that expresses female jealousy and resentment, and is used in Noh performances such as "Aoi Kami", "Doseiji", and "Kurotsuka (Adachihara)".

Appearance

  1. Hannya is the face of a demon woman, with two long horns painted with gold mud on her forehead. On the top of the head, the hair is depicted parted on the left and right, as in other female body masks such as the small face, but in the case of Hannya, the hair is disheveled to express the ferocity. On the forehead, a fake eyebrow (an eyebrow drawn with eyebrow ink above the original eyebrow) is drawn. The eyes under the furrowed eyebrows are golden, and only the pupils are pierced. The mouth is wide open, revealing the upper and lower teeth and two pairs of fangs.
  2. The characteristic of Hannya is that the upper half of the face is a sad expression with furrowed eyebrows, while the lower half has a wide open mouth expressing intense anger. Such a sculpture is said to express the duality of the heart of a demon woman who is filled with anger and sadness.
  3. The skin of Hannya is painted flesh-colored. There are whitish flesh colors, flesh colors, and dark flesh colors, and they may be used differently depending on the role.
