The origin of the "samurai picture streamer" that is decorated mainly on Children's Day is derived from the "hatasashimono" of the samurai.
A banner is a military flag used by samurai to distinguish friend and foe during battle.
At the end of the Sengoku period and the Edo period, this flag finger changed to a "picture streamer" for celebrating the festival.
