If you follow contemporary Japanese illustration, this is a chance to see one artist's range gathered in a single volume. Fuchi has built a following through novel cover art, music video illustrations, character designs, and key visuals for events — work that circulates widely but is rarely collected in one place.
BIRTHDAY brings together both commercial and original pieces across 160 pages. You get to see how the same hand moves between a book jacket, a character sheet, and a personal piece, which is often where an illustrator's real sensibility shows itself.
The collection also includes newly drawn illustrations built around the themes of color and travel, forming an original story that the artist describes as a requiem for their own past. It gives the book a shape beyond a simple portfolio.
The text is in Japanese, but the artwork speaks for itself. Published by Genkosha, 2024.
