Original vintage constructivist magazine USSR in Construction #2 February 1934 The State Publishing Union of RSFSR, designed by El Lissitzky (1890-1941), a Russian artist, designer, photographer, typographer, polemicist and architect. USSR in Construction was a monthly constructivist publication dedicated to construction projects and industry in the USSR, published in Russian, French, English, and German from 1930 to 1941 as a collaboration between some of the most esteemed Soviet artists of the time. This issue celebrates four victories: Epron (a Special-Purpose Underwater Rescue Party for salvaging sunken ships and submarines), the Moscow-Kara-Kum-Moscow automobile run, the Pamir expedition and the flight of the Stratostat 'USSR'. The art composition is by El Lissitzy. Features a great photomontage of Stalin waving, with mountains, a parachutist, warships, a submarine and trucks in the background, and a diagram of the stratostat's flight, with heights and speeds marked on.
