The Craftsman Book of Bungalows, Second Edition (Bungalow Book Publishing Company, Portland) is an architectural pattern book focused on the popular Arts & Crafts / Craftsman bungalow style. It presents illustrations, floor plans, and design details of homes built in Portland and the Northwestern U.S., showing features like full basements, large porches, oak floors, built-ins, fireplaces, and screened porches. The text offers commentary on materials, layouts, finishes, and costs, reflecting early 20th-century residential design ideals. It’s valued today as a reference for historic bungalow restoration, architectural historians, and anyone interested in period home design and Craftsman style documentation.

Profusely illustrated and descriptive, model identification and  floor plan drawings.  Thoroughly engaging.

Paper / Soft cover reprint edition in very good condition, flex covers, coil bound, a sturdy book with typical slight wear to edges and spine from being moved around the shop, stored flat. Overall wonderful copy, informative resource. It would make a great gift for the fan in your life, even if that's you.

About the company:

--  In an advertisement in Pacific Monthly (in 1907), the Bungalow Book Publishing Company of Portland is referenced as one of the companies issuing catalogs/plans for suburban lots or country orchard lands. The ad says new owners could buy plans from their catalog to build homes.  The “Craftsman” / “Arts and Crafts / Bungalow” cultural movement was very strong in the Pacific Northwest (including Oregon) in that era, which aligns with the kind of market there was for plan catalogs, house plan books, and “pattern book” architecture. -- Unable to find out much about this company. Other than they were in the popular trade of ready made homes and plans for homes to build either by contractors or homesteaders. (source google)
