This is a vintage antique sample of barbed wire fencing.   This sample features a Purches Miles patent, dated October 08, 1878.  This wire is called "Miles Staple Barb Around Two Light Weight Twisted Lines"  by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 455-B).  This wire features two twisted together light weight round line wires.  Barbs are two pointed made by clinching a staple shaped barb around both lines.    Wire sample is 18" in length.   Wire sample shows light pitting. There are three barbs.  Barbs are fairly well spaced, and cut is well centered.  Sample shows some light bending of barbing points, but no broken or missing points.
