Up for sale is a 1989 Kenner Starting Lineup (SLU) edition of Mark McGuire in his Oakland Athletics uniform.

Mark McGwire, nicknamed "Big Mac", had a major league playing career spanning from 1986 to 2001 while playing for the Oakland Athletics and the St. Louis Cardinals, winning one World Series championship each, with Oakland as a player in 1989 and with St. Louis as a coach in 2011. One of the most prolific home-run hitters in baseball history, McGwire holds the major-league career record for at-bats per home run ratio (10.6), and is the former record holder for both home runs in a single season (70 in 1998) and home runs hit by a rookie (49 in 1987). McGwire was one of several central figures in baseball's steroids scandal. In 2010, McGwire publicly admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs during a large portion of his career.

The figure is an official Major League Baseball and Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) licensed Sports Superstar Collectible. Included on the hanging display card are a 5-inch action figure with the team's colors/logo and a collectible baseball trading card. These baseball cards are becoming of interest to baseball card collectors in their own right.

Both the card and the figure are still sealed inside their original hanging card protective see-through plastic bubble . . . thus both the card and figure are in mint condition. It is in its original packaging, never opened, no card fading, light corner nubs on the hanging card, very light creases or bends on the hanging card, no bubble damage. I purchased the figure new and have stored it since that time. It has never been displayed.

Starting Lineup was a brand of action figures produced from 1988 to 2001, first by Kenner and later by Hasbro. The figures became very popular, and eventually included sports stars from baseball, football, basketball, hockey, auto racing, boxing, track & field, skating, soccer, and golf.
