This is a vintage antique sample of barbed wire fencing.   This sample features a Thomas H. Dodge and Charles G. Washburn patent, dated January 24, 1882.  This wire is called "Dodge & Washburn's Four Point Barb Around Two Lines - Heavier Gauge (or Two around Two)" by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 552-B VARIATION). (Hagemeier does not show the two sizes of wires available).   This wire features two twisted together round line wires.  Barbs are four pointed made by wrapping two barbing wires together around both line wires.  This is a heavier or medium gauge variation with line wires about 12 gauge.  Wire was galvanized after barbs were applied.  Wire sample shows very light age wear.  Sample is 18" in length, and has three barbs.  Barbs are well spaced, and cut is well centered.   There are no bent, broken, or missing barbing points.

Last photos show this wire in comparison to its lighter gauge model.  These photos are for comparison only, and second wire is not included in listing, but is available on a different listing.
