This is a cabinet card photograph from the 1880s. At first I thought that the child was female but the more I look the more I believe it is a boy in a dress with a straw hat. At this period boys were often dressed in skirts until they were older. The photographer was A. R. Roy who was famous in his time. It was taken in Levis, Quebec, Canada. On the back is the handwritten name "Mrs. Valeda Demoncourt" which I assume is the mother of the child. The margins are age darkened and there is some slight wear at the corners. It is otherwise in good condition.
