This Meteorite shows evidence of experiencing a tremendous impact event. It was clearly ejected from the Moon but at some point became a victim to Earth's gravitational field and after untold years in outer space landed on Earth.

History: Within the last few years it was observed that a strewnfield existed North of Tindouf Algeria where a few Lunar meteorites were found. Recently further meteorite hunting expeditions to this location have led to this new Lunar NWA 11266 being discovered on the surface with many fragments revealed by shallow excavation of the soil below.
Petrography: (A. Irving and S. Kuehner, UWS) Breccia composed of mineral clasts of anorthite, olivine, exsolved pigeonite, orthopyroxene, augite, fayalite, Ti-chromite, kamacite, taenite and troilite in a finer grained matrix containing small vesicles.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa_20.8-54.4, FeO/MnO = 87-105, N = 3), orthopyroxene (Fs_17.0Wo_2.9, FeO/MnO = 53), orthopyroxene host (Fs_37.9Wo_4.8, FeO/MnO = 55), clinopyroxene exsolution lamella (Fs_16.9Wo_41.9, FeO/MnO = 41), augite (Fs_8.6Wo_43.1, FeO/MnO = 41), plagioclase (An_96.4-96.9Or_0.1-0.2, N = 2).

Classification: Lunar (feldspathic regolith breccia).
