*BATIK KERIS INDONESIAN SILK SCARF*

This is a gorgeous Indonesian silk scarf by Batik Keris. It is dyed using the batik process. Primary color are pink and purple with accents in red and orange.

This is a long yet very lightweight scarf, measuring 5-1/2 feet long, and 14 inches wide.

*WHAT IS BATIK?*

Batik in an Indonesian technique, originating in Java, of wax resist dyeing of a cloth. The pattern, usually consisting of dots and lines, can be either hand-drawn into the wax or stamped using a copper cap. Because the wax resists dyes, the maker can apply color selectively by allowing the cloth to soak in one color, then removing the wax with boiling water and repeating with another color.

While batik can be found in other countries, Indonesian batik is the standard in batik and is recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
