While somewhat similar in design to the standard 1989 Donruss set, these were issued separately in packs including five All-Stars and one pop-up. Jose Canseco and Ozzie Smith, 'Most Votes' for each league, have a second regular card.

The 'Pop-Up' cards have a die cut design around the player and can be folded to stand up and away from the background. Sometimes the unnumbered 1988 and 1989 'Pop-Up' cards can be misidentified. These can be distinguished by the two red dots only on the front name banner of the 1988 Pop-Up. On the back, 1988 cards have a 1987 Leaf copyright and 1989 cards have a 1988 Leaf copyright.
