This set was not issued until late in the year and is often referred to as the "Haloween set" due to the timing of the release and the black and orange color scheme.

Each year from 1987 to 1990 Donruss produced a fairly comprehensive Late-season "Best" set. The first release, 1987, was actually called "Opening Day" as it only contained those players who were in starting lineup for the opening game of the season. That's why, for example, Mark McGwire and Nolan Ryan are not in the 1987 set. The following year sets were renamed "Best Of" and allowed for the inclusion of any players deemed BEST.
Because these factory boxed sets were distributed basically through retail outlets such as Wal-Mart rather than card dealers, they didn't get the hobby recognition that similar traded sets did at the time. AND they weren't included in the monthly guides.
NOW, a decade later, it is apparent that Donrusss BEST singles are MUCH TOUGHER to find than the regular issues from these years.
