Also known as Lock and Catch. Fragment of rusted metal printed blue on lino left and turned upside down and printed in rust-red on right, half-tone block of lift-catch of door in centre taken from scrap heap and printed in black.

In 1946, after an early career as a landscape watercolourist, Michael Rothenstein embarked upon his career as a printmaker. He was dedicated to the art of printmaking from this moment onwards and explored working with lithographs, monotypes, etchings, linocuts, woodcuts, screen prints and mixed media In 1957 he worked with Hayter at Atelier 17. From this time onwards printmaking became his main field of activity and a prolific output of colour linocuts, woodcuts. Screenprints and mixed media prints followed over the next four decades. His major contribution to printmaking was the development of the relief print using found objects and materials, a subject on which he wrote three books
