This is a superb original signed and numbered limited edition color woodblock print by internationally acclaimed artist AKIRA KUROSAKI (Japanese, b. 1937), dated 1973.

A major twentieth century Japanese printmaker, Akira Kurosaki (sometimes spelled 'Kurozaki') created his first woodcuts around 1965. His art has been exhibited internationally and has been awarded prizes at major print fairs in Paris, Tokyo, Krakow and Ljubljana. In 1983 Kurosaki received the Grand Prix at the Seoul International Print Biennale. Akira Kurosaki is a full member of the Japanese Print Association. From 1970 to 1986 Akira Kurosaki served as Professor of Printmaking and Paper Making at Kyoto Seika University. After that time he resided for several years as a visiting professor in the United States. Some of his more recent prints have been printed and published in that country by the Tamarind Institute. Kurosaki is also a noted author and scholar and his written such works as Kami: Japanese Handmade Paper (1978), Washi: Japanese Paper Traditions (1987) and Modern Woodcut Techniques (1977 & 1993).

This rare original color woodblock print is entitled "Anatomy § Silence II", and is signed by the artist on the front lower right and dated "73". It is also titled on the lower center and numbered on the lower left "21/75", from the total limited edition of only 75 impressions. It is printed on the artist's own watermarked rice paper and bears an embossed blindstamp on the lower right. It is in good condition, measures 18 ¾" x 26 ¾" (sheet), 14 ¾" x 21" (image), and is framed in a custom made Plexiglas box frame for a total size of 19 ¼" x 27" (there is wear to the frame).
