How to Open a Stuck Container Door

Step 1:

Confirm standard ISO handles and exterior seal — this is the right-hand door.

Step 2:

Seat the Leverage Bar on the outside handle securely before applying force.

Step 3:

Lift both handles out of their grooves — the bar's length makes this significantly easier.

Step 4:

Swing handles perpendicular and pull firmly to open. Note: this moves the handles — it does not operate the cam latches.

  • Will this bar close or latch my container door?

No — and this is critical. The Leverage Bar opens stuck doors by lifting the handle. It does not operate, seat, or close cam latches. If you need a closing or latching tool, message us before ordering and we will point you to the right solution.

  • Does it work with easy-open or aftermarket handles?

No. It is designed for standard ISO container door handles only — the traditional straight bar handles on most 20ft and 40ft containers. Easy-open and aftermarket handles have different geometry. See listing images for handle type reference.

  • Which door do I use it on, and where exactly?

Use it on the right-hand door — the one with the exterior seal, which opens first. Attach to the outside handle of that door. A full step-by-step photo guide is in the listing images and a video guide is in the A+ content below.

  • Will it work on severely rusted or long-sealed containers?

Yes — that is the exact use case it is built for. The bar's length provides controlled leverage that makes seized doors manageable without improvised tools or requiring two people.

  • I'm not sure if my handles are compatible — what should I do?

Message us on Amazon before ordering. Send a photo of your door handle and we will confirm compatibility at no obligation. Our team has real container experience and responds within one business day.
