This release pairs two tribute performances recorded in a Paris studio in April 2026—a year marked by numerous tributes celebrating the centennial of Miles Davis's birth, most notably the special group "WE WANT MILES!" The set combines a soundboard-quality CD and a pro-shot Blu-ray featuring Yaz Ahmed’s tribute to *Bitches Brew* (Miles's pivotal electric-era album) and Avishai Cohen’s (the trumpeter) tribute to *Jack Johnson* (an album that enjoys enduring popularity even among rock fans). While neither musician may be a household name in Japan, both are brilliant, up-and-coming masters of contemporary jazz. Yaz Ahmed is known for her exotic, groovy sound infused with strong world-music elements. Avishai Cohen—who has released material on the ECM label—is a musician capable of crafting immersive soundscapes that incorporate ambient textures. Both performances utilize a studio-live format with inventive staging where the audience surrounds the band performing in the center. For the *Jack Johnson* set—originally the soundtrack to a documentary about the boxer of the same name—the stage is set up like a boxing ring, with Cohen entering by ducking through the ropes. Naturally, the performances are superb; this is a highly recommended release that will hopefully win both Yaz Ahmed and Avishai Cohen a legion of new fans.
