If there are changes that you require or mistakes or deference's in relation to the real aircraft before ordering, please message us and we will setup an alternative listing to match your own requirements. We request your understanding on this matter due to the fact that these handmade models are traveling in many cases halfway around the world and any misunderstandings or mistaken expectations must be addressed at this as point of time as we cannot be held responsible for the costs involved in returning and replacing the model. The model will be shipped with the stand you see in the images although you may request if you like to change to either 1, 6 or 7 as in the attached image examples (just message us if a change is required).

It is our aim to continue to be a "sustainable" manufacturer avoiding the use of man-made materials wherever possible such as plastics, resins or metal in an attempt to reduce our Carbon Footprint and to protect our environment for generations to come. Our models are "works of art" and not to be confused with mass made plastic kits or diecast (die cast) look-alikes. We are proud Filipino's exporting to all parts of the globe and creating employment opportunities in an impoverished part of our country.

100% handmade models naturally come at a higher price than off the shelf, plastic or diecast (die cast) models but it may interest you to know that an average regular size fixed wing or helicopter model takes on average a total of 26 dedicated Man Hours of work to produce. During this time the model transitions through over 40 different manufacturing stages and processes. The 26 hours are not consecutive and require in-between many days (and in some cases weeks) of drying and curing time as they pass from one department to another making the overall production time from an outsiders point of view appear rather lengthy. Given these facts the time period we quote for production alone is very standard for our type of industry and among our close competitors. If you are interested in what goes into making these models, there follows a summary process schedule and video. De Havilland Dash 8 DHC-8-100: US Airways Express’ Regional Connectivity Champion

The De Havilland Dash 8 DHC-8-100, a robust and reliable turboprop aircraft, is a familiar sight in the world of regional aviation. Its exceptional ability to serve short-haul routes and operate from smaller airports made it a key player in regional air services for several airlines. Among the carriers that relied on the Dash 8 DHC-8-100 was US Airways Express, the regional affiliate of US Airways. Operating under the US Airways Express brand, this aircraft helped connect remote and underserved communities to larger hub airports, ensuring that passengers had convenient access to US Airways' extensive domestic and international network.

Introduction to the De Havilland Dash 8 DHC-8-100

The De Havilland Dash 8 DHC-8-100 is the first variant of the Dash 8 series, a family of turboprop aircraft developed by De Havilland Canada. The Dash 8 is designed for short to medium-haul flights, typically serving regional routes that don’t require the capacity or performance of larger jet aircraft. The DHC-8-100, which entered service in the mid-1980s, typically accommodates between 37 and 39 passengers and features twin turboprop engines.

One of the most significant advantages of the Dash 8 is its ability to operate from short runways, which is essential for flying into regional airports with limited infrastructure. This capability allowed the Dash 8 to connect smaller towns and rural areas to larger cities, bridging the gap where jet aircraft couldn’t operate due to runway limitations or smaller passenger demand.

The Pratt & Whitney Canada PW100 engines that power the Dash 8 are known for their fuel efficiency, which is especially valuable on shorter regional routes. Additionally, the aircraft’s high wing design gives it better clearance for obstacles on the ground and helps improve its performance in adverse weather conditions, such as high winds and snowstorms.

US Airways Express and the Dash 8 DHC-8-100

US Airways Express was the brand name used for regional services operated by smaller regional carriers on behalf of US Airways. These regional carriers flew a variety of smaller aircraft, including the De Havilland Dash 8 DHC-8-100, to provide essential connections between US Airways’ major hubs and smaller regional airports.

The Dash 8 DHC-8-100 played an important role in US Airways Express’ operations, particularly in serving routes that were too short or didn’t have enough passenger demand to justify the use of larger jet aircraft. The aircraft was particularly useful in regions with smaller airports or airports with shorter runways, which are often found in mountainous, rural, or remote areas.

During the 1990s and early 2000s, US Airways Express operated a fleet of Dash 8 aircraft to connect regional markets in the Northeast United States, Mid-Atlantic, and parts of the Southeast to US Airways’ larger hub airports in Philadelphia, Charlotte, and Pittsburgh. Cities like Albany, New York, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Wilmington, Delaware, and Richmond, Virginia benefited from the service provided by the Dash 8, offering convenient, frequent flights to major urban centers.

Thanks to its small size, the Dash 8 DHC-8-100 was able to serve routes with lower passenger loads efficiently, making it an economical choice for US Airways Express. The aircraft’s ability to operate from smaller airports also provided passengers in remote areas with access to US Airways' broader network of international and long-haul flights, effectively enhancing connectivity.

Features and Performance

The DHC-8-100 was known for its efficient performance on short-haul routes, making it ideal for US Airways Express operations. Here are some key features and performance highlights of the aircraft:

  • Capacity: The Dash 8 DHC-8-100 typically accommodates 37 to 39 passengers in a single-class configuration, providing a comfortable and functional cabin for regional flights.

  • Range: With a maximum range of 1,000 nautical miles, the Dash 8 was capable of covering most regional routes served by US Airways Express, offering convenient connections to major US Airways hubs.

  • Turboprop Efficiency: The aircraft's twin turboprop engines are known for their fuel efficiency, allowing US Airways Express to operate more cost-effectively on shorter routes. This made the Dash 8 a popular choice for smaller regional markets.

  • Short-Runway Capability: One of the Dash 8’s standout features is its ability to take off and land on shorter runways, a vital capability for smaller regional airports. This allowed US Airways Express to serve destinations that were inaccessible to jet aircraft.

  • Weather Resilience: Thanks to its high-wing design and powerful engines, the Dash 8 could operate in adverse weather conditions such as low visibility and snow. This reliability helped maintain consistent service to smaller airports that could be prone to challenging weather.

The Transition to Regional Jets

As regional jets such as the Embraer E145 and Bombardier CRJ200 gained popularity, the role of turboprops like the Dash 8 DHC-8-100 began to decline. These regional jets offered more capacity and faster cruising speeds, making them better suited for a growing demand for short- and medium-haul services. Additionally, jet aircraft could provide a quieter and smoother ride for passengers compared to turboprops.

US Airways Express transitioned to more regional jets over time, but the Dash 8 DHC-8-100 still played a critical role in the airline's regional network for many years, serving key routes where turboprops were more effective.

Legacy of the Dash 8 DHC-8-100 in US Airways Express

The Dash 8 DHC-8-100's legacy at US Airways Express is significant, as it helped the airline maintain vital regional connections. Although the aircraft has been retired from the airline’s fleet, it was instrumental in offering affordable, reliable, and efficient services to smaller markets, bridging the gap between smaller regional cities and major hub airports. It allowed US Airways to remain competitive in a market that required frequent and cost-effective service to smaller communities.

For passengers traveling from regional cities to major hubs, the Dash 8 was often their first experience with US Airways, creating an important gateway to the airline's larger network. While the aircraft is no longer in service, its impact on regional aviation for US Airways remains an integral part of the airline’s history.

Conclusion

The De Havilland Dash 8 DHC-8-100 played a critical role in the success of US Airways Express, helping the airline maintain a robust network of regional flights that connected smaller cities to larger hubs across the United States. Its ability to operate on short runways and serve remote airports made it an invaluable asset for the airline, ensuring that passengers in less accessible areas could easily connect to the wider US Airways network. While regional jets have largely replaced turboprops like the Dash 8, the aircraft’s legacy in regional aviation, and with US Airways Express, continues to be remembered as a key player in connecting the nation’s smaller cities to larger metropolitan centers.
