FIRST SNOW ★ NOVEMBER 2009
The first snow of the year comes early, the same week the new Arceus packs go up on the shelf: the last set of the Platinum era. By the time you leave the store, it's coming down thick and quiet under the streetlights.
You walk home with the pack in your coat pocket, breath fogging, the cold biting at your fingers. The clouds break for a minute and the stars come out over the snow, a few of them burning faintly red, like embers somebody left in the cold.
You can't wait. You open it right there on the sidewalk, snow landing on the cards. Common, common, a Trainer, and then one card comes up red and glittering edge to edge, and the little horse on it is on fire in the middle of a snowstorm, burning like a ★blue star★
Blue fire.
The coldest color, burning the hottest.

STAR BARRIER
No Weakness while it holds Energy.
The card says it best: "As a newborn, it can barely stand. However, through galloping, its legs are made tougher and faster."
Its Poké-Body, Star Barrier, erases Ponyta's Weakness as long as any Energy is attached. Then it attacks with Blue Fire: 50 damage, at the cost of every Fire Energy it's holding.
★ Its Japanese attack name, あおいほのお, is the same name later given to Blue Flare, a move that didn't exist until Generation V. ★

Printed in 2009, this shiny has made it 17 years still raw and never slabbed, Near Mint, its blue flames as bright as the night it was pulled.
